Why Perth Drivers Get Paint Correction Done

Swirl marks, haze, and fine scratches are not just cosmetic. They age your car fast, cut resale value, and make every wash look worse than the last. Perth's harsh UV and gritty road conditions speed all of that up.

Paint correction removes the damaged layer of clear coat through controlled machine polishing. What's left is the clean, undamaged paint underneath — sharper colour, stronger gloss, and a surface that reflects light the way it did when the car was new.

Whether you're protecting a daily driver before a ceramic coating, preparing a car for sale, or simply want your paint looking its best again, correction is the only process that actually fixes the problem rather than hiding it.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Wash and Decontamination

Your car goes through a thorough hand wash followed by chemical and physical decontamination — iron fallout remover, tar solvent, and clay bar. This strips everything off the surface that polishing pads should never be grinding against.

45 to 60 mins
2

Paint Thickness Assessment

We measure paint depth at every panel with a digital gauge before any machine touches the car. This tells us exactly how much clear coat we're working with and which correction stage is safe and appropriate for your specific vehicle.

20 to 30 mins
3

Machine Polishing — Cutting Stage

Using a dual-action or rotary polisher with a cutting compound matched to your paint condition, we systematically work panel by panel. This is where swirl marks, scratches, water etching, and oxidation are physically removed from the clear coat.

2 to 5 hours depending on paint condition and tier
4

Refining and Finishing

On Two Stage and Multi-Stage corrections, we follow the cut with progressively finer polishes to refine the surface, eliminate any light haze left by the cutter, and bring the gloss to its peak. Each panel is checked under LED lighting before moving on.

1 to 3 hours
5

Final Inspection and Panel Wipe

All panels are wiped down with an isopropyl alcohol solution to remove polish residue and reveal the true corrected finish. We do a final pass under multiple light sources — LED, natural, and raking light — to sign off the work before you collect your car.

Paint Correction FAQ

Cost depends on the tier, your vehicle size, and the current condition of your paint. Single Stage is the most straightforward and suits lightly swirled paint. Multi-Stage takes longer and covers more severe damage, so it's priced accordingly. We assess your car before quoting — get in touch and we'll give you a clear number with no surprises.
Most corrections take a full day. A Single Stage on a standard sedan typically runs four to six hours. A Two Stage on an SUV or ute can take six to nine hours. Multi-Stage work on heavily neglected paint may require the car for a full day or into a second day. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when you book.
The correction itself is permanent — the scratches and swirls we remove are physically gone from the clear coat. How long the finish stays that way depends on how the car is maintained after. Applying a ceramic coating on top locks in the result and makes the paint far easier to keep clean and swirl-free going forward.
Yes. Corrected paint is vulnerable without a protective layer on top. We strongly recommend following up with at least a quality paint sealant, or ideally a ceramic coating. Avoid automatic car washes entirely — they're the number one cause of swirl marks coming back. Stick to a proper hand wash technique or a professional maintenance wash.
Cut and polish is an older industry term for a similar concept, but the process and results are not the same. Traditional cut and polish done at a fast-turnaround car care shop often uses harsh abrasives on a rotary, cuts corners on prep, and leaves haze or buffer trails behind. Machine paint correction at DriveHQ uses proper decontamination, paint thickness monitoring, and graduated polishing stages to achieve a verifiably clean result.
Paint correction removes scratches that are within the clear coat layer. If a scratch has broken through to the base coat or primer, it cannot be polished out — those require touch-up paint or a panel respray. During your assessment we'll identify which marks can be corrected and which can't, so you know exactly what to expect before we start.
We stand behind the quality of our work. If you have any concerns after collecting your car, contact us and we'll assess and address it. We'll be upfront about what the correction process can realistically achieve on your specific paint before any work begins — there are no hidden promises and no vague guarantees.
Yes, always. Ceramic coating locks whatever is on the paint surface underneath it — if that surface has swirls and scratches, the coating preserves them permanently. Correction first, coating second is the only sequence that makes sense. We offer both services and can package them together.
